What is ABA?

What is Applied Behaviour Analysis?

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a scientifically proven method that has had over 40 years of empirical research within the field of Autism and early intervention. The published research studies have documented the effectiveness of ABA across a wide range of settings and behaviours. Behaviours strands include: language, social, academic, and functional life skills. ABA breaks skills down to their most simple-form, so the child can learn. These skills are practiced intensively and then generalised across multiple settings with different people.
ABA uses a variety of learning techniques to help children learn. These include Discrete Trial Training (DTT), PECS, Video model, Natural environment teaching, Incidental teaching, Pivotal skills training, Chaining, and Shaping.

DTT is one of the most important instructional methods for children with autism. DTT is primarily teacher initiated, this method breaks down the skills to be learned in simple steps.

At Leaps Ahead Early Intervention, we continue to evolve on the ABA learning and place great emphasis on the generalisation and spontaneity of skills learned. We seek to create scenarios where children take initiative in building up their own learning.

Is your child struggling to learn?

We can help by using evidence-based methods like Applied Behaviour Analysis and Positive Behaviour Support to help your child with autism or other developmental delays improve essential life skills and help children learn.
Leaps Ahead Early Intervention acknowledges the muwinina and palawa peoples as the traditional owners and custodians of land, sea, sky and waterways of trowunna/lutruwita (Tasmania).

We pay our respects to elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

We recognise a history of truth which acknowledges the impacts of invasion and colonisation upon Aboriginal people resulting in the forcible removal from their lands.

We stand for a future that profoundly respects and acknowledges Aboriginal perspectives, culture, language and history; and a continued effort to fight for Aboriginal justice and rights paving the way for a strong future.
